How Robert and Kate bought their first home through Shared Ownership

When Robert and his partner Kate were offered the chance to buy the two-bedroom apartment they had been renting in Bethnal Green, they decided to see what else the East London property market had to offer them.

Captivated by Three Water’s high-quality design, incredible amenities, and stunning vistas over Canary Wharf, Robert and Kate were stunned and knew that it was time to leave their old property behind and start a brand-new chapter. Providing an affordable route onto the market for aspiring London homeowners, the couple is proud to now call this Peabody New Homes’ waterside development their home.

“The home we’d been renting was decent, but nothing particularly special. The landlord had told us that we could buy it for around £470,000 so we wanted to compare this with what else was on the market. When we found that we could own a home at Three Waters through Shared Ownership, we were so impressed that we could afford something of this quality. We had viewed quite a few places and they were all ok, but Three Waters was hands down the best we saw. I actually thought it was too good to be true. We looked around the development and I just remember thinking that this is so much better than everything else we’d seen. From the quality to the location, everything just seemed to click for us, and we put an offer in the day we viewed.”

“We had initially been expecting to have to save for another year or so in order to afford anywhere in London, but at Three Waters we only needed around a £15,000 deposit to buy a 25% share of our home, worth £125,000. Shared Ownership is really a very powerful scheme for helping first-time buyers get onto the ladder and it’s great that Peabody New Homes has put us in a position where we didn’t need to rent somewhere again when our landlord decided to sell.”

Stylish New Build Homes from at Three Waters

Having moved into their new home in October 2023, Robert describes the property: “The two-bedroom apartment we’ve bought at Three Waters is actually bigger than our previous two-bed rental apartment, which is great. I work from home, so having the second bedroom is invaluable for creating a designated workstation away from the rest of the home. What really sold this apartment to us was the balcony and the amazing views! The development has been carefully designed so that we can see almost the entirety of Canary Wharf through most of our windows and the balcony.”

Robert and Kate also purchased one of the development’s show homes, enjoying an additional layer of impressive design and style. “The fact that the Peabody New Homes team let us buy the show home with all the interior design already sorted was amazing. Kate is very artistic, so the design of our home was very important to her, but we were both really impressed with the quality and have probably kept around 90% of everything we’d seen.”

Peabody homes come with excellent amenities

Homeowners at Three Waters benefit from a range of amenities and communal spaces, including a 24-hour concierge service for added peace of mind.

“At Three Waters, the design of the whole development is so well considered. We have a 24-hour concierge and the team is really friendly and helpful. I often have a chat with them when I see them around the development.”

“I’d say I am a bit of a movie buff so the fact that we have a screening room here is unbelievable. You can tell that whoever designed this space knows their movies too because it's so well thought out. There’s a kitchen next to the space for snacks and drinks, and there is lots of fan art there which is really cool. In the screening room, you can easily connect to whatever app you like, so I can watch all my favourite films on a big screen.”

Shared Ownership homes in great locations across London

Located where the waters of Bow Creek, the River Lea, and Limehouse Cut meet, Three Waters in Bromley-by-Bow is at the heart of an exciting regeneration area just moments from the bright lights of the city.

“Before moving to Three Waters, we had lived in a few neighbourhoods around East London, but Bow Creek wasn’t somewhere that we were particularly familiar with. Three Waters has come at a really exciting time, because the area is beginning to regenerate so we will be right in the middle of all the new things that brings to the community. When we want to go out and explore the city, we can also reach Canary Wharf in around 20 minutes.”

Peabody offers flexible Shared Ownership options

“I would massively recommend buying through Peabody New Homes. Everyone we have spoken to has been so knowledgeable of the development and the buying process, which has allowed us to have a smooth buying experience. The Sales team were really friendly and not pushy at all, so we took the time to explore four or five homes at Three Waters and make the decision that was right for us.”

“We had looked at some other Shared Ownership options, but one thing that made Peabody New Homes’ offering really stand out was the flexibility around the initial share we could buy. Some organisations had said that we’d need to buy a minimum of 50%, but at Three Waters, we were able to put down a 25% share which really helped us take those first steps. We intend to staircase up to 100% and full ownership, but being able to do that on a timescale that works best for us is a real bonus. I think that having the chance to buy your own space is really important and that Peabody New Homes is playing a really important role in giving first-time buyers that opportunity.”

All homes at Three Waters are now reserved, but Peabody New Homes is preparing for the upcoming launch of its new collection of Shared Ownership properties nearby at West Ham Village.
